Odin and his sister, Whiskey, were surrendered by very sad parents who had to move due to financial reasons. They sold their home and did what they felt was the best for their two dogs – they gave them up to Husky Heaven Rescue to rehome. They kept in contact all the way, asking for photos and videos and contributing to help with their food and needs.

Roger Ramos contacted me and enquired about Odin, but they’d lost one of their very special rescues and their hearts were still very sore. Roger and his wife, Nicola, are amazing humans. They only adopt rescues. They took their time, asked so many questions, and eventually Roger flew from Cape Town to meet the amazing Odin at our facility in Centurion.

He spent the whole day at the rescue and was very impressed by our rescue site.

He then filled in an adoption application and sent me a video that we requested of their home. After long discussions about Odin, finally the day arrived and they said: please – they want to adopt Odin.

I made the flight arrangements and, on the 20th of January 2026, Odin and I went to the airport, checked in and off we flew to Cape Town.

We met, the contract and vet book were handed over, and Odin went home. This boy’s story is now captured in the pictures – a very happy pup that has two siblings and enjoys wonderful river walks, sea swims and forest strolls in the most amazing home ever.

Odin’s Happy Tail

Our Odin story began while we were on holiday in December, with me scrolling through Facebook and quietly looking at potential adoptions. Our own beautiful rescue pup, whom we’d loved dearly, had sadly passed away due to illness. When we felt ready, we knew we wanted another special dog – one that would suit our active, outdoor lifestyle.

That’s when I came across the Husky Heaven Facebook page. I was immediately drawn to their daily posts and the genuine care and love shown for each rescue. It was clear that Husky Heaven puts their hearts into saving these dogs, rehabilitating them, and placing them into truly loving homes.

One post in particular caught my eye: a “Christmas food bowls” feature – and there was Odin. He immediately stood out to me. There was something about his sweet face and soulful eyes that felt like he was looking straight at me, asking for a chance.

I reached out to Brenda from Husky Heaven, armed with loads of questions. She was absolutely wonderful – patient, informative, and incredibly thorough. She sent me photos and videos and took the time to answer every question in detail. It was obvious that Brenda genuinely wants the very best for her rescues and carefully ensures they go to the right homes. We completed and sent the detailed application form and provided details, pictures and a video of our home and pet circumstances.

Before long, I decided to fly up for the day to meet Odin in person. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed. A kind staff member named Gift met me and introduced me to Odin – and I fell in love instantly. He wasn’t only gorgeous, but clearly active, playful, and full of life. I could immediately see him fitting perfectly into our home.

Gift then gave me a tour of Husky Heaven, and it truly lives up to its name. Brenda really places a lot of time and effort to continuously raise funds to keep the standards so high for the dogs. The dogs are exceptionally well cared for in spacious, thoughtfully designed camps with lush green grass, shade trees, splash pools, and even a large communal area where they take turns running freely and stretching their legs. Seeing so many beautiful huskies and husky crosses being protected and loved by Brenda and her dedicated team was incredibly moving. Anyone who qualifies to adopt from Husky Heaven will undoubtedly find an amazing canine companion there.

Today, Odin is living an amazing life with us – and he’s an absolute joy. In his very first week, he joined us for swims in Betty’s Bay, forest walks, and social outings at Radloff Park in Somerset West. He loves chasing a ball and is wonderfully social with both people and other dogs. Watching him learn to swim was especially entertaining – at first he paddled like a toddler, but now he’s completely confident and loving the water.

We’re endlessly grateful to Brenda, Gift, and the entire Husky Heaven team for the incredible work they do. And thank you to Odin’s previous owners for ensuring he was placed somewhere safe and loving.

Because of you all, Odin has found his forever home – and we’re looking forward to many adventures with Odin... nicknamed OD!
