Let’s Spay SA is a registered NPC founded with the primary objective of sterilising as many animals as possible across South Africa.
The organisation was started four years ago by Mandy Lu, who, after witnessing the country’s severe animal overpopulation crisis, set out on a mission to make a meaningful and lasting impact.
Over the years, Let’s Spay SA has grown significantly, partnering with veterinarians nationwide to help curb the overpopulation of stray and unwanted animals. Thousands of animals have already been sterilised, and the organisation continues to receive daily requests for assistance.
Sterilisation services (spaying and neutering) are offered primarily to animals belonging to low-income families and disadvantaged communities.
In addition, the organisation supports numerous registered NPOs and animal welfare groups across South Africa by providing financial and logistical assistance for sterilisation programmes. Many of these outreach initiatives take place in areas where little to no animal welfare support exists.
The organisation’s core aim is to reduce the number of stray and unwanted animals through humane, preventative veterinary services.
Let’s Spay SA actively promotes responsible pet ownership and public awareness around sterilisation and animal welfare.
It upholds a strict ethical stance against animal breeding and hoarding, and enforces a strong “quality of life” policy to prevent cruelty to animals.
A secondary objective of the organisation is to educate and empower local communities by providing training and guidance on responsible pet ownership, as well as the health and safety of domestic animals.
What began as one woman’s mission has changed – and continues to change – the lives of thousands of animals every year.
