Max was in a bad way. Her distressed owner from Diepsloot Township called us, desperate for help. With a severely broken leg and unimaginable pain, this brave soul had somehow managed to drag herself home to her owner’s shack. He assumed that she’d been hit by a speeding car.

We rushed to the scene, loaded the gentle, badly injured dog into our vehicle and took her to our vet. Unfortunately, our vet informed us that her bones were shattered in more places than they could count – her leg couldn’t be saved. Max would need an amputation to ensure her future quality of life.

The surgery went well, but the recovery was hard. Max would sit by the door, whimpering softly, confused by the absence of her limb. But day by day, step by shaky step, Max learned to walk again. Today, walks are one of her favourite things. Her owner asked us if we could take his dog into our shelter and find her a new home, out of fear that this might happen again.

Russet-brown beauty Max has turned out to be an exceptionally loving, playful dog who enjoys her walks, unbothered by her missing leg. Maxie may have three legs, but she has zero limitations when it comes to love and joy! She’s great with other dogs, but not a fan of cats, so she’s looking for a cat-free home. Max is overflowing with personality, resilience, and affection.

Please come visit our shelter and meet adorable Max – she deserves a second chance and a family to show her that love heals all wounds.
