African Tails celebrates 20 years of “Saving Our Street Dogs and Cats”!

African Tails is a registered animal welfare organisation based in Brooklyn, Cape Town. The organisation was founded in 2006 by three passionate animal lovers who were deeply disturbed by the number of homeless and neglected animals in surrounding communities. The focus started in the impoverished and underserved settlements of Dunoon and Joe Slovo, and has since spread all over the Western Cape.

Over the past two decades, our organisation has worked tirelessly to reduce suffering and improve the lives of animals through sterilisation, rescue, rehabilitation, and responsible homing.

Although we’re a small team, we’re proud of the meaningful difference we’ve been able to make for animals in need.

To date, we’ve sterilised over 17,700 dogs and cats, helping to prevent countless unwanted litters in vulnerable communities. In addition, we’ve rescued, rehabilitated, and responsibly rehomed more than 2,800 dogs and cats, giving them a second chance at safe and loving homes. We don’t have kennel facilities, so we rely on foster homes – essential in enabling us to save these animals

You can help!

There’s so much you can do to help us help the animals. African Tails always needs:

Foster homes: All costs involved with fostering are covered by African Tails. All we need from you is a safe and loving foster home until the dog/cat has found their forever home.
Kennels in usable condition: For the dogs with no proper shelter. We come across so many of these dogs during sterilisation campaigns and more.
Dog and Cat food: Dry and Wet, adult, puppy or kitten. Not only do we feed all of our foster animals, but the local community relies on us to assist them when they’re running short towards month-end. We also supply all dogs and cats with food parcels when we do sterilisation drives.
Pet necessities: Collars, leads, harnesses, beds and all goods in usable condition.
