My husband was looking to adopt another German Shepherd again, as we’d sadly lost our last rescue to leukaemia. He wanted an intelligent, loyal and affectionate companion to call his own.
After taking in Meisiekind nearly two years ago now as an emergency foster and making extensive trips to the vet for bandage changes, we all made an instant bond. From the moment I held her in my arms, when her wounds were open, septic and sore, to seeing her trust in us, told us that we shouldn’t let her go.
She was terrified of other dogs coming near – and they knew this! Larry, our rescue Chihuahua cross, took to her so well and they just got along like sister and brother, thriving every day.
One lady came forward to see her before we’d made any definite decisions, but she had a cat, so that wouldn’t have worked at all with her!
Watching her enjoying the sun on her back, rolling on the lawn and playing with her toys gave us so much pleasure – she looked so relaxed and safe.
The public also helped so much to cover her vet bills, so this was all meant to be!
She loves her walks in our quiet neighbourhood with Larry by her side and sleeps between us both in our bed every night. Such a great “hot water bottle” too! She’s very loyal and affectionate, especially towards my husband, anticipating his every move. Also a good hearing aid and watchdog! Loves to chase the guinea fowl every morning.
We’ve all become such a happy, harmonious family, so we took the decision to keep her forever. We’ve never looked back.
