Never before have we been confronted with such barbaric cruelty against one so young. Suffering a catastrophic blow to the head, this eight-week-old pup was mercifully rescued when her appalling facial injuries were noticed by an animal angel.

Too graphic to post, the initial photo of her was shocking, and truly heart-breaking to see. This violated little pup then had to undergo surgery to remove her terribly damaged eye.

A few weeks after her dreadful ordeal, a wonderful family, the Thomsons, visited Pet Pals to welcome a new puppy into their home. Despite having a wide and varied choice of many, this imperfect little being simply… stole their hearts!

Now embraced in the unwavering love and understanding of her very own family, we feel profoundly indebted to the Thomsons.

In a life-changing gesture of true compassion and kindness, Kayla Thomson and her family have chosen to look past what is outwardly seen, and to revere and treasure what is unseen: a remarkably brave and beautiful little soul, their treasured pup, Olive!

Kayla Thomson shares...

When I first met Olive, she was the first puppy I saw at the gate at Pet Pals. I didn’t even notice that she only had one eye. When I got through the gate I sat down and played with her. I also saw two other puppies; they were Labradors, they were in perfect condition, but Olive on the other hand, still had her stitches in. My first thought was that she’d never get chosen to be adopted.

I pleaded with my parents to adopt her and she could be the new addition to our family.

Why I chose Olive – after hearing her story, I knew that she didn’t know what love felt like, and this was the perfect opportunity to show her. Speaking of opportunities... When I met Olive I had the song words in my head “I see the opportunity, it’s standing right in front of me”. This was a sign! Everything just clicked. I knew she was The One.

I love Olive with all my heart, and yes, my ankles may never be safe, but I’ll always know that’s a part of my family with two new “siblings” – Hiccup and Cally – our precious “Pack”
