In an area of KZN well known for dog fighting and cruelty, a brindle-and-white Bull Terrier was found on the streets at the beginning of October 2022.

The dog was bleeding quite profusely and had many, many wounds all over his face and body. Some wounds were open and fresh, while others had been inflicted some time ago and were infected and swollen. It’s clear that he’d been attacked and mauled by another dog.

He needed veterinary care

PACT (Phoenix Animal Care), a KZN-based animal rescue organisation, uplifted the badly injured dog and provided him with the initial and immediate veterinary care that was required. Adorabull Terrier Rescue and Rehabilitation was tagged in the post on Facebook and we approached PACT to offer our support for the breed to which we’re committed, nationwide.

One side of his face had been particularly damaged, along with puncture wounds on his legs, chest and head. It wasn’t clear whether he’d lose his eye, but the vet surgeon at Ashburne Vet Clinic did decide that the ear would be amputated as there was hardly anything left of it.

Slowly but surely, Kratos, as we named him, started to feel a little better, and through all the handling by the vet and staff, he was on the mend while receiving top care. He managed to walk with a little more ease and, as all Bullies do, he loves his food and treats!

Looking cheeky

Because of the damage to his face, the decision was made that a skin graft would be performed to the side of the face that had sustained the most damage. The surgeon did an amazing job! It’s healed beautifully and he always seems to have this cheeky little smirk on his face.

During his time at the vet, Adorabull put out a plea to our supporters for assistance with his vast medical expenses and, as always, the Bully army answered the call. We were able to assist PACT with a substantial amount paid to the vet practice.

Once Kratos had gained enough strength and the infections were all under the control, he was strong enough to make the journey from KZN to Gauteng. He was an absolute delight in the car, and when stopped for body breaks along the way, he merrily plodded along and would jump back in the car with the promise of a treat and some more attention!

Striving for a better life

Kratos arrived safely at Adorabull kennels, and we’ve fallen instantly in love with the dog who fought to live, who strived to find a better life for himself! Kratos is exceptionally calm and friendly. He loves to play and bounces along like a dog who’s never had a hard day in his life.

As we’re still working to get to know Kratos and see his personality shine as he starts to feel more comfortable and confident in a loving and stimulating environment, we’d be looking at a dedicated new home for him who’ll take into consideration that he may require more support from a physical perspective due to what his body has been put through. Also, we’re currently contemplating a home for him with no other dogs – due to his traumatic past, he may find it a challenge living with another dog.

Any willing or interested parties are welcome to contact Adorabull via email at info@adorabullterrier.com and we’ll refer back to your queries as and when we’re able to do so. Also, you’re welcome to check out our work and initiatives on our website, www.adorabullterrier.com.

As Adorabull, we’re extremely proud and privileged to be able to provide Kratos with the springboard into his new life. That we’re blessed with some of the kindest and most generous supporters and a dedicated committee, staff and volunteers. A small group of good people who’ve moved mountains for a dog that wants to live and love.

Along with Kratos, there are over 50 Bull Terriers currently in our care within kennels. A small group of five people walk our dogs daily and spend time in the runs with them, mentally and physically stimulating them and ensuring that every dog, regardless of their history, feels special and loved… because they absolutely are!
