“There was an important job to be done, and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn’t do it.”

This saying is so relevant to Paws from Heaven, an organisation dedicated to helping special needs cats and kittens. Founder Shuveny Bower is that “Somebody”, and the cats and kittens she helps are very important indeed.

How Simba inspired Paws from Heaven

Paws from Heaven came about when Simba, a ginger-and-white kitten with leg paralysis, arrived in December 2017. Simba was rescued from horrendous circumstances, and he required someone with the heart, soul and dedication required for this special case.

Aiding Simba was created, with a Facebook page, to raise funds to help little Simba. Due to popular demand, the Aiding Simba movement was registered as an NPO under the name Paws from Heaven.

Sadly, Simba earned his wings on the 6th of June 2018, after nine months of love and care. However, this didn’t mean the end of a legacy but rather the beginning of one…

Catering to every cat’s needs

Paws from Heaven was the very first establishment to aid and facilitate as well as rehabilitate abused, abandoned and special needs cats and kittens. Paws from Heaven provides a safe, loving environment that caters to each cat’s special needs. An average of 30 to 40 cats call this sanctuary home.

Some of the cats can be rehomed. But some are so shy, have special needs, or are so reticent about human connection that they just cannot be rehomed – this is where Paws from Heaven comes in. The sanctuary doubles as Shuveny’s home; here all the cats are free-roaming and part of the family. There are no cages and kennels, and cats that need sanctuary find it here. Those in need of medical care receive this, thanks to an amazing vet who does house calls for this special colony, Dr Pauline Smit of Vet on Wheels Incorporated.

We all know that cats are gods and expect to be treated as such. At this unique shelter they are. Even when their angel wings are to be earned, Shuveny holds and comforts each precious soul through these moments so that they’re not alone or scared.

Paws from Heaven will always go the extra mile for every feline friend in their care.
