In 2024, Luna, a two-year-old Pekingese, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) – a painful degenerative condition affecting the spine, which can cause mobility problems and even paralysis – leaving her owner facing a treatment and surgery bill of nearly R30,000.
Although Luna received the care she needed, the experience made one thing clear: no pet parent wants finances to stand in the way of lifesaving treatment.
After researching her options, Luna’s owner chose Oneplan Pet Insurance, finding reassurance in cover that included Luna despite her pre-existing IVDD.
Two years later, Luna became seriously ill and required multiple hospitalisations, emergency specialist care and ongoing treatment. Throughout the process, Oneplan worked closely with the treating veterinarians, issuing Guarantees of Payment and guiding Luna’s owner through the claims process. Once the final invoices were received, the remaining balances were settled directly with the veterinary hospitals, allowing Luna’s owner to focus on her recovery instead of financial stress.
“Knowing I could focus on Luna’s recovery instead of worrying about the bills meant everything. I’m incredibly grateful for the support I received when we needed it most,” Luna’s owner says.
Every pet’s journey is different, but for Luna and her owner, having pet insurance provided valuable peace of mind when the unexpected happened.
