Summer in our home

One Saturday morning earlier this year, I went to have a cup of coffee with a friend at Constantia Garden Village Shopping Centre. After our coffee, we went to walk some of the dogs that were at the Oscar’s Arc adoption day.

The following morning, I returned to Oscar’s Arc in Constantia and saw the friendliest, fluffiest fur baby. We weren’t looking for another pup, but Summer caught our attention. She was fluffy, but her hair didn’t shed. Since we’re only able to have hyper-allergenic dogs, it was the perfect match. But the only thing was… she already had a home pending.

Later that day, I messaged an Oscar’s Arc volunteer and asked her to please let me know if Miss Fluffball’s adoption fell through.

Imagine my utter delight when, at 7h30 the next morning, I received a call from a volunteer at Oscar’s Arc to advise that, should I still be willing, she’d be mine to adopt.

We named her Summer. Two days later, Summer hopped on the plane with me, and we headed home to Plettenberg Bay.

Summer has been an absolute delight to cuddle, play and work with: she’s responsive and recently graduated from puppy school. She loves swimming laps in the Keurboom River and chasing the plovers up and down Solar Beach.

Summer adores her big brother, Marley, who’s welcomed Summer into his home with open paws. We count our lucky stars every day. She’s a blessing to have and to cuddle. It’s wonderful to play and do life with her.
